Spokane River

Since I'm in Spokane for T-day, I decided to escape for a bit to fish the Spokane river around 1pm. It was cold, not much above freezing, with partly cloudy skies. I went back to a section below Upriver Dam that I fished during the summer. Needless to say, the water was much higher, but there were still some spots to wade. I tied on a San Juan Worm and dead-drifted it underneath an indicator. I nymphed in some deep, soft seams close to the bank. The water was in good shape, as I could see a lot of nice structure on the bottom. After working a seam for about 15 minutes, my indicator shot down and put a nice bend in my 6wt. After a solid run, I could tell it was a thick fish. I played it for a few minutes and the big 'bow was almost to the net when it decided to flop on the surface and de-hooked itself. It was close enough to estimate it at around 18". I moved to a new seam after not getting anymore action at the previous section. After about 10 minutes of working different lines, my indicator darted sharply down. Another 'bow just crushed the San Juan and gave a nice fight. I landed this one, and got a pic with my camera phone. A pretty 15" bow: I ended up fishing for a little over an hour, before I decided to warm up. Not too shaby for a quick winter urban fishing expedition. It was good to get some bends in the rod. 'Till next time, Josh
